Martial Art And Buddhism

By Christian Wong

Kung Fu or Martial Art is a system of techniques that was designed to hurt or kill another human being efficiently. A large amount of the forms of martial arts were originated from the East. And these eastern martial arts all have deep spiritual or religious roots. The main religions they are related to are Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Many people decided to ignore this fact and continue practicing martial arts.

People who had practiced or study qigong know that qigong is close related to Eastern religions. There are many similarity or common points between the qigong theories and doctrines of Buddhism and Taoism. Many elements in qigong were actually spiritual trainings in those religions. During the progress, the student can be greatly assisted by understanding philosophies of the religions. Qigong is a part of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.

When we compare marital art with different eastern religions, we see so many similarities that it is unwise to say that they are merely coincidences. Then it is natural for us to be curious about the purpose of such spiritual practice and its place in the philosophies of the religions. In order to understand this matter thoroughly, we must see beyond the physical but the spiritual. And when we do this, we find that all of them have the same origin which is the devil.

The purpose or aim that the Eastern Religions are trying to achieve is the same as what Qigong is trying to achieve and it is what the devil wants to achieve.

There are so many different religions in this world. They all claim that they are ways to get to God. But in fact, the devil created them to attract people and to deceive people. The devil wants to stop people from knowing the true God. It wants worship for itself. Some believe that as God is infinite and man is finite, when man tries to understand God it would be like the blinds tries to learn how an elephant looks by touching it. Some touches its ear, some touches its legs, and some touches its tail. And as a result, there are different viewpoints. This is absolutely a false hypothesis.

There is only one true way to get to God. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but by Him. Before Jesus' death and resurrection, only the Israelite had a covenant with God and only they knew God. But after Jesus was born and was crucified and risen from the dead, his blood washed away every one's sin which was the only thing that kept God and man apart. The only thing we need to do is believe in Jesus and accept Him as our personal savior.
